Māori Data Sovereignty

At Tupuna Pai, Māori Data Sovereignty is not a compliance statement. It is a design principle. Every architectural decision in the platform has been made to ensure organisations retain full ownership, control, and governance of their knowledge.

The platform is designed to support transparency, accountability, and organisational control over knowledge, data, and AI-supported decision-making.

Organisational Ownership
Each organisation maintains ownership and control of its own information, governance frameworks, operational knowledge, and uploaded content.
Tupuna Pai is designed to support stewardship of organisational knowledge rather than centralising ownership or control externally.

Dedicated Organisational Environments

Tupuna Pai is designed using dedicated organisational environments to reduce risks associated with shared data structures.
This supports stronger separation, governance oversight, and organisational accountability.

Knowledge-Grounded AI
Tupuna Pai is designed to work from organisational knowledge, governance frameworks, and approved information sources rather than unrestricted internet searching.
This helps ensure AI-supported outputs remain connected to the organisation’s own context, values, strategy, and responsibilities.

Human Governance
AI-supported outputs remain subject to human oversight, governance processes, and organisational accountability.
Tupuna Pai supports human judgement. It does not replace organisational responsibility or decision-making.

Data Residency and Infrastructure
Tupuna Pai can be configured to support New Zealand-based hosting and governance requirements where appropriate.
The platform uses modern cloud infrastructure and security practices to support responsible organisational data management.

Responsible Stewardship
Tupuna Pai is intended to strengthen stewardship, transparency, governance capability, and long-term decision-making.
The goal is not simply to store information, but to help organisations remain accountable to the responsibilities they hold over time.
